My Sexy Saturday--an excerpt from Present Day Partners

Welcome to an "adults only" excerpt for this week's My Sexy Saturday blog tour. The theme this week is "Thanksgiving" and who could be more thankful than lonely Sara Shaw is when her dream lover materializes beside her in her bed? ;)

From the third book in the Time Surfer series, Present Day Partners

Present Day Partners
 http://www.extasybooks.com/Present-Day-Partners/

Shelby and Quentin invite Ivak, the invisible time agent, to present day St. Louis for a bit of relaxation. They introduce Ivak to Sara Shaw, a determined up-and-coming real estate tycoon. Ivak falls hard for the beautiful ice princess and yearns to melt her heart and help her trust again. Can a trip to Sara’s past—and then into her future—persuade her that love exists beyond outer appearances?

Convenient links to all three books in the Time Surfer series: http://www.extasybooks.com/the-time-surfer/

Excerpt set-up: Sara dreams an erotic dream where she isn't alone. Invisible time agent Ivak is standing near by and he hears her pleas to be loved...

“Hmm… yes, please make love to me, dream lover!” She began to stroke his shoulders and plant butterfly-light kiss on his chin, neck and chest. “I can’t see you, so this must be a dream.”

What could he say? What should he do? In all his years at a time agent, Ivak had always played by the rules. He had always refrained from having sexual relations with beings from the past, particularly since his actions could have consequences in the future. His future. He made certain any potential sex partners in the present gave their permission in a sober state so he could feel confident that both his and their pleasure wouldn’t be compromised by a later accusation of coercion or manipulation. Still, Sara had asked him very nicely to make love to her… that should count as giving permission, right? But she was asleep and exhausted, and his taking advantage of the situation wouldn’t be right.

Ivak was just about to disengage himself gently from her embrace when—

“Oh, my!”

Sara was more awake than he’d given her credit. Her kisses had moved further south until her mouth had encircled his engorged cock. She began to suck until he wriggled with pure bliss. Whoa! Sara Shaw really knew how to make a straight arrow like him forget his TRA oath! Her tongue danced along the shaft and around the tip as her hands squeezed and massaged his balls expertly. It was all he could do to prevent from cumming. Such talent deserved a reward.

“Come up here and ride me. I want to watch your beautiful face as you come.”

Eagerly she did as she was bidden, straddling his hips and sliding his cock into her moist cunt in one deep thrust. She gasped and began to rock her hips, corkscrewing him deeper into her core. Ivak fondled her breasts and tweaked her nipples until they stood proud in the silhouette of the full moonlight. He took hold of her curvy ass and pumped harder and harder until at last she tossed back her head and screamed the first of her orgasms. His own shouts blended in a symphony of her cries, pulling him over the edge as they both came simultaneously.

My Sexy Saturday--A Sexy First on a Party Spaceship!

Welcome to another addition of My Sexy Saturday! This week's theme is "a sexy first", and what could be sexier than your first time at an alien orgy on a party spaceship, right?

Here's a seven paragraph excerpt from my latest SF/time travel erotic-romance release in The Time Surfer series. From Fooling Around with the Future...

Excerpt set up: Shelby is invited to the "dance floor" by Reks, a Saurian bartender who mixes one very potent cocktail. Luckily for her, her boyfriend Quentin knows the ropes.

Shelby furrowed her brow. Her brain had turned into a giant cotton ball, her thinking fuzzy and her logic soft. “Now that you mention it… You’re right. There’s no dance floor. There’s just lots of pillows—and bodies rolling about on the floor on top of other bodies. Is that what they consider dancing in these parts?”

Quentin nodded and smiled. “Smart girl. Are you sure you’re ready for a sexual encounter with a Saurian? They’ve been known to be quite rough on their sexual partners.”

Reks flung a scaly arm about her shoulders and pulled her close. “Hey, buddy, she’s an adult of her species, right? She can make up her own mind about inter-species sex. She seems very open-minded and not the least bit prejudiced against green people.”

I have nothing against green people,” Shelby began slowly, “but I’m a bit new to this alien group sex thing, Reks. Perhaps Quentin should accompany us.”

Both male human and male Saurian eyes widened with surprise. “You don’t say?” Reks scratched what she’d loosely term his chin with a long nail, his tongue darting in and out. “I’ve heard about Terran threesomes. I must say I’m flattered. As long as your friend is okay with it, I’m game.”

I’m okay with it,” Quentin said after a long pause. He whispered in her ear, “You sure you don’t want to experience your first threesome with another human?”

Who says it’s my first?” Shelby stood taller and lifted her chin in the air. “I’m not a total bumpkin. I attended a large state university, you know.”

How can I say no to such a sexy man?

Shelby Schwartz moaned in her sleep and rolled onto her back. It had been difficult drifting off to sleep in the weeks since Gary had left her, but tonight was different. Exhausted by a long day at the office, she collapsed into bed and fell quickly into a deep sleep, a deep, erotic-dream-filled sleep that made her hunger for a man’s intimate touch to pleasure her throbbing pussy…Instead, she knew she would have to gratify her own sensual needs. She reached over to the bedside table and groped around, still half-asleep, for her well-used vibrator.

She screamed as she felt the warmth of a human hand instead.

“Who are y-y-you?” she stammered, sitting up in bed and reaching for the lamp switch. The stranger removed her hand from the toggle before she could switch on the light and cradled it tenderly in both of his.

“No need to be upset. I won’t harm you. I was just passing through, and I heard you moaning in your sleep. I figured you needed a little…help.”

Help. Yeah, that’s exactly what she needed—help to find her cell phone and to dial 9-1-1 before she ended up chopped into soup-sized bits in this maniac’s food processor.

“I…I didn’t realize my voice carried quite so well through these brick walls.” She slowly curled her legs beneath her, preparing to bolt from the opposite side of the bed, explode toward the exit and fly down the steps and out the front door before her visitor even had a chance to go for his machete. “Or maybe I need to replace the windows. Pity, since the contractor told me they were top-of-the-line.”

“Yes, they are. I can tell you’ve done a great job rehabbing this old brownstone. But don’t worry—it’s soundproof. I heard your sighs in my own dreams, and I surfed on in to investigate. This is St. Louis, twenty-first century?”

Shelby blinked and stared hard toward the man with the voice as smooth as silk kneeling next to her bed and holding her hands in the dark. She could only just make out his silhouette in the darkness—and what a silhouette it was!

He was built like a linebacker, with broad muscular shoulders tapering down to a svelte waistline and a nice ass. The powerful hands that held hers made her imagine how well-endowed he’d be in the groin area. What a shame he was a common criminal who broke into single women’s homes and scared them half out of their wits at one o’clock in the morning. If she’d brought him home from the bar she frequented after work, she would have been more than happy to put her vibrator away and ask if he’d like to help scratch her itch.

“Twenty-first century?” she asked slowly and deliberately. Okay, maybe her visitor was just a plain ol’ delusional psycho and not a chainsaw murderer or run-of-the-mill rapist. If she could keep him talking, she stood a chance of getting out of this situation unharmed. “What century do you think we live in? The eighteenth?”

He tossed back his head and gave a deep, throaty chuckle. Its vibrations sent shivers of anticipation up her spine and directly to her aching clit. Whoa…with a sexy laugh like that, she nearly came listening to his resonant baritone. She wondered what would happen if she read comics out loud with him?

“Good one.” He sighed as his laughter gradually resided. “Your house wouldn’t be standing here in the eighteenth century. It’s about a hundred fifty years old.”

Shelby nodded slowly as her innate business radar clicked into gear. “You into fixing up old homes? I’m a real estate broker, and I can give you the scoop on a couple of real prizes in the neigh—”

“That’s not necessary,” he interrupted. He brought the back of her hand to his lips and kissed it. “I’m a traveler. I don’t really need a permanent home.”

She felt breathless at the touch of his full lips against her flesh. Trembling, but not out of fear or terror, she longed for him to press his kiss against her lonely lips.

“Why, everyone needs a home of some sort,” she babbled, trying to keep the intriguing stranger engaged in conversation, “a place to park your assortment of Cardinal baseball caps and treasured 1904 World’s Fair souvenir collection. Am I right?”

He chuckled again and gave her hand a squeeze, then let go. “Some do and some don’t.” She heard the squeak of the old floorboards as he rose to his feet. “Some of us enjoy wandering about eternity without a place to call home. We’re free agents—free to roam and explore without being tied down to a particular place…or time.”

Time. What was it about him and time? Shelby stared at the stranger through the darkness and tried her best to focus on his face, but the dim light of the moon through her sheer bedroom curtains wasn’t strong enough to help her discern his features. He seemed to be backing toward the door, readying to leave her. She sighed. Yet another example of how her incessant questioning had driven a good-looking man out of her life. But desperation and desire impelled her to ask one more.

“You never answered my question,” she interjected as he reached for the bedroom doorknob. “What century do you think you live in?”

Shelby could have sworn she heard a smile in the stranger’s silky voice as he answered, “Why, the forty-second, of course.”

Book Review: The Light of Other Days

The Light of Other DaysThe Light of Other Days by Arthur C. Clarke

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This is a book that I really wanted to like--tried to like throughout the long slog of reading it. I've always been a big fan of Clarke since his Rendezvous with Rama and 2001 days, but alas I can't say I enjoyed reading The Light of Other Days quite as much. I realize Clarke wasn't the best with developing three-dimensional characters as he is with explaining esoteric science theories, but is it too much to expect at least one character in a novel of this scope be someone you can cheer on? The premise of the WormCam and exploring Earth's past and the social upheaval it causes is intriguing I'll admit. But when the reader is bombarded page after page of the authors' take on historical personalities and events with little attention given to the fact that on page one they've set a planet-killing asteroid directly into Earth's path... Well, your suspension of disbelief gets stretched a bit. You become irritated that you've been tricked into reading what could be equated as anti-religion propaganda and not a science fiction yarn. I expected something a bit better from these authors, frankly.

Doctor Who Middle-Age Madness

At last the BBC announced the next actor to portray the Doctor on science fiction television's longest running series, Doctor Who. It's Peter Capaldi. Yeah!

I'm thrilled because I think Peter will be excellent in the role. He starred in the David Tennant/Catherine Tate 2008 episode "The Fires of Pompeii". He also played quite a spine-chilling baddie in the spin-off series Torchwood in its "Children of Earth" episodes. I've loved him from the first time I saw him on screen in the wonderfully warm and witty movie comedy Local Hero. What's not to love about an actor who can play heroic, comical and pure evil characters with equal ease?

I think the persona of the Doctor needs a good balance of heroic and not-so-heroic traits. After all, he is an alien--he's not human (according to canon). What we puny humans may see as "evil" may not seem that way to him and vice versa. It makes for a very dynamic character, one that is at times unpredictable and at others dependable. It makes for a character that has been extremely popular for a half century now and shows no signs of diminishing in popularity.

This brings me to the reason behind my blog post title. I really enjoy the idea of watching another "middle-age" Doctor (who, of course, is much older than he looks).  While the current producers may have thought that young people would only watch the show in record numbers with "one of their own" in twenty-something Matt Smith playing the title role, I do believe they've come to realize that it's not the age of the actor that matters but his energy level. I think Peter will have the right energy level in addition to the handsome, distinguished looks that women in  my particular age group will relate to well.

As the old saying goes, "Snow on the roof doesn't mean there isn't a fire in the hearth." ;-)

What does this mean for my alter-ego Cynthiana's ongoing Doctor Who-inspired series Loving Who (and its sequel Leaving Who)? The next title in the series that I'm working on is Losing Who. In a way Peter Capaldi becoming the new Doctor works into the plot outline quite well. Things change. My character Cici Connors experienced an abrupt change in the last installment, so a new face to confront and get to know is just par for the course at this point in her life journey.

And who knows... Cici might find a good-looking man of a certain age worth getting to know better. ;-)

I'm looking forward to the fiftieth anniversary special coming in November and the Christmas special when Peter's Doctor will make his debut. How about you? Are you excited? Has Doctor Who "middle-age madness" taken hold of you? Or are you still crying about Matt Smith (or David Tennant or Christopher Eccleston or...) leaving the show? What sort of storylines or characters do you envision in the new season episodes? Are there any mortal enemies of the Doctor you'd rather not see?

Let me know your feelings in the comments below. You never know--I might just use one of your ideas in the plot of Losing Who!

Calling all Doctor Who fans...

The long awaited sequel to my mainstream persona's Doctor Who inspired novel, Loving Who, has finally arrived. Leaving Who picks up the story of John Smith and Cici Connors, the universe's most unlikely time-traveling duo.

Leaving Who is available at Mojocastle Press

After touring the universe with time traveler John Smith, Cici Connors wants one more thing—to go home. Will the imminent destruction of Earth throw a kink into her plans?

Read a short excerpt of it at the Confessions of a Blonde Writer blog by clicking the link or copying the URL below into your browser:
http://momsday.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-sneak-peek-at-leaving-who.html?spref=fb

Update: Due to technical factors beyond even a Time Lord's control, the release date for Leaving Who is now scheduled for April 28, 2013. My apologies for the wait. And remember, fezes are cool. ;)

Voyages Around the Timeline

Yes, it’s been a while since I’ve posted a blog, but I really have a good excuse this month. I’ve been traveling around the timeline.... Literally! No kidding. I even have some photos to prove it.

Before I forget, I’ll be traveling into the future the weekend of October 2-4 to Archon, a science-fiction convention in Collinsville, Illinois. I always enjoy meeting readers, fans and other interesting people at Archon, so be sure to drop in on one of the panels I’ll be on and introduce yourself. I hope to have some copies of my fantasy-screwball comedy, time-traveling novel, LOVING WHO, with me to sign and sell. (Keep your fingers crossed the publisher gets them to me in time.)

Other time periods I’ve experienced this past month include the pre-Civil War period in the “northernmost Confederate-sympathizing city” of Hannibal, Missouri. My husband, Adrian, and I even met and shook hands with Mark Twain “himself”. He’s looking great for his age. What a witty man—marvelously entertaining! Other sites of interest in the Hannibal area included eating at Lulabelle’s, a former bordello (it was in operation up until the 1950s) and touring not one, but two caves. Check out Hannibal for scenic views of the Mississippi and small town life as it was not so many decades ago.

During Labor Day weekend, we visited two historic forts across the Mississippi—Fort De Chatres and Fort Kaskaskia. The first is a French fort built in the early 18th century that was eventually demolished by the British after the French and Indian War. It is partially reconstructed and stands as a testament to a long ago time when other powers ruled this part of the world. Just a few miles down the road stands the remains of Fort Kaskaskia, where Lewis and Clark recruited a dozen men to go on their Voyage of Discovery in 1804. The cemetery of the lost city of Kaskaskia lies nearby, a testament to the power of the river to completely wipe out Illinois’ first capital city in the later half of the 19th century.

From the pre-Civil War period/early colonial era, we jumped back to the late 17th/early 18th century and the Spanish Main as we traveled to the St. Louis Pirate Fest up in Wentzville, Missouri. Yo-ho-ho and a nice pickled egg, me mateys! Pirate Fest has lots of fun entertainment from guys in short pants and more earrings than a jewelry store along with great music groups, such as "3 Pints Gone" and "Queen’s Gambit". We enjoyed food like “bangers and mash” and “jugged fish” while watching the pirates duke it out with the “French” of “Port Royal”. A family-friendly event, Pirate Fest is the last three weekends in September each year. Plan to come aboard!

We hovered around the 18th century and then plunged the next weekend into the 1750s to experience the intense drama of the French and Indian War at Koh-koh-mah, a historic reenactment near Kokomo, Indiana. Primitive camping with plenty of wood smoke permeating your clothes and hair--ah! It was enjoyable weekend in spite of the fact there were no showers or flush toilets. But, hey! This is 250 years ago… You just put on more layers of clothes to cover your funk. I enjoyed wearing long skirts up until Sunday afternoon when a short rain shower broke, drenching the reenacting field and muddying the hem of my nice gown.

But there’s no crying in reenactment—there’s just mud and dust and grime and smoke and lots of fun discussing the lifestyle of the French, British and Native Americans of the era. Adrian had a great time portraying a 78th Frasier Highlander shooting his musket at those pesky French persons who tried to take over the fictional fort. In the end, the British prevailed. (Historically speaking, twenty years down the road, these very same Frasier Highlander soldiers would go on to exact a sort of Scottish vengeance against their English cousins during the American Revolution.) The saddest thing to come out of the French and Indian War, however, is that it soured relations among the English speakers and the Native Americans who had formerly been their allies. The tribes who aligned themselves to the two European superpowers essentially signed away any goodwill they once shared with the white frontier peoples. Many reenactors demonstrated Native American arts and crafts and social/family life at Koh-koh-mah. Without “living historians” how would we know about their rich culture?

Another time travel stop we made this past month (alas, I didn’t have my camera!) was the Wilson’s Creek Battlefield near Springfield, Missouri. Site of one of the bloodiest battles of the early Civil War period, today it lies in a remote, quiet pasture of rolling hills and a bubbling creek… Hard to believe about 3,000 men lost their lives there on an August morning in 1861.

It’s fun being a time-traveler. I plan on using some of the great research I’ve done this past month in a future story or novel. I’d start writing it now if only I had the time--or a time machine!

Everything You Wanted to Know About My Latest Release (But Were Afraid to Ask)

Allrighty… About the new release from Liquid Silver Books Hanging with a Time Surfer… Where do I begin?

Do you want to know where I came up with the title for the story? Okay, we can start there. The title began out of nowhere actually. I had said something to someone at LSB that my first release with them, Help! I’m Falling for the Vampire Next Door, would be followed up by a sequel with an even longer title! (Such a little devil, I am, aren’t I?) Well, our web guy Mike warned me that “Vamp Next Door” had already broken the web site with its mile long title, so I decided the next book title would be a tad shorter. I had my hero in mind already (a time traveler). I wanted to come up with a title just as funny as the first book’s in the “series”--another thing I came up with on the spur of the moment. Boy, am I ever growing “spontaneous” in my old age! —so I came up with “Hey, I’m Hanging with a Time Surfer”. I was told it was a few characters too long. Oh, dear. So it eventually evolved into the form you see today on its terrific cover.

(I have been blessed with two terrific covers here at Liquid Silver Books. Many, many thanks to cover artist Lynn Perkins and to April Martinez, art director. You ladies rock big time in my humble opinion.)

Let’s see, what’s next… I came up with the title and the hero and now I told everyone this was a “series”. Great. Why do I put myself into these pickles? I had to have a heroine… and the only woman I could think of to take out of “Vamp Next Door” was Melynda’s cousin, Shelby. Oh, dear—I had made Shelby a married woman! That wasn’t going to work out in a new romance with a time traveler… I had to get rid of her hubby. It actually wasn’t too hard, as Shelby had only mentioned Graham in passing in the first book, and Mel had intimated that he was somewhat of an obsessive-compulsive business type who couldn’t stand anyone who left the toothpaste cap off! So, Graham runs off with a cocktail waitress, leaving Shelby man-less and a bit unsure of her own sexuality at the story’s opening. Who could ever love her since she’s been dumped? Poor, poor Shelby!

I couldn’t let this poor chick (well, Shelby’s not poor actually—she’s practically a millionaire) sit around and mope in Saint Louis about her two-timing husband. This is the perfect opening for Quentin Takahashi, our intrepid “Time Surfer” from the 42nd century to make an appearance in her life. Quentin sweeps Shelby off her feet and takes her on a time-traveling, sexual odyssey that pulls Shelby out of her funk and makes her focus on what’s truly important in life. (Hint: It’s not selling lots of real estate like she thought it was; that’s for sure!)

Where all do they travel in time and space? I decided to take Shelby and Quentin to a couple of fun periods in Saint Louis history—to “medieval times” and the lost city of Cahokia and to the tense period during the Civil War when the Union held the city (although a majority of the residents were Confederate sympathizers). After that, I thought they could sore off to another planet in the future—as I had to figure out how I was going to introduce my next paranormal hero for third book in the “series”. (Oh, this spontaneous urge really was putting me through my paces!) And who is this next hero? The answer to that secret will have to wait until you’ve read the book!

The next question coming out of most people’s lips at this point is, “Where did you come up with all those ideas for the wild sex scenes? Like how many orgies and group sex get-together have you attended personally? Do you like to be spanked? Have you ever had sex with a reptilian alien yourself?”

(*Blushing*) Um… I will only say in my defense that I have an overactive imagination and figured that Shelby really needed to expand her horizons a bit. Quentin, coming from another time period and culture, sees no problem in allowing Shelby to experiment with various sexual techniques and partners. It is his acceptance and love that allows her to have these experiences and to learn and grow from them. Quentin is the ultimate hero—no hang-ups, no jealousy (all right, just a little) and he always has Shelby’s best interests at heart.
